Timber Products tackles air quality regulations with new plywood line
GreenT™ panels available with resins containing no-added-urea formaldehyde
LAS VEGAS (AWFS booth 1238) – While green building takes many forms, homeowners and businesses are increasingly showing a preference for two particular elements of the sustainable movement: healthy indoor air quality and recycled materials.
To meet the growing demand for materials that offer these green benefits, Timber Products Company, the leading producer of environmentally sustainable wood-based panels, has introduced its new GreenT™ line of hardwood plywood that is available with a special no-added-urea formaldehyde resin and several core options produced with recycled wood fibers. To add to its green qualities, GreenT is produced from wood certified under the Sustainable Forestry Initiative®.
“GreenT offers our customers a wide variety of innovative products that have been field tested for strength and durability and perform well in many applications,” said Timber Products Vice President Roger Rutan. “Our GreenT panels meet or exceed many of the requirements of America’s primary green building programs, including the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED® program.”
Manufactured with Advanced
Resin
GreenT’s pioneering manufacturing process allows for a
cost- effective resin that is free of urea formaldehyde and
mixed and applied in a proprietary process. This breakthrough
provides the woodworking industry with a competitively priced
hardwood panel that greatly reduces the amount of formaldehyde
emissions.
Because of its air quality benefits and sustainable components, GreenT meets the requirements of the Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturers Association’s Environmental Stewardship Program and the Composite Panel Association’s Environmentally Preferred Program.
“Consumers are looking for products, such as cabinets, carpet and paint, that contribute to healthy indoor air quality and prevent off-gassing but they aren’t willing to sacrifice when it comes to performance,” said Rutan. “GreenT gives woodworking professionals dependable materials to meet these needs.”
GreenT Hardwood Plywood panels are made with three different core materials and can be produced with a special no-added-urea formaldehyde resin, or other resins that meet specific performance requirements:
· GreenT™ Arreis™ is a new MDF core product produced with a no added urea formaldehyde adhesive and 100 percent post-industrial recycled wood fiber. GreenT™ Arreis™ hardwood panels provide the same performance as standard MDF core panels.
· GreenT™ Veneer Core has the same physical properties as the company’s standard veneer core products.
· GreenT™ Particleboard Core offers the same physical properties as standard particleboard core hardwood panels.
In addition, the GreenT line includes:
· GreenT™ SpectraBoard, a hardwood face, decorative overlay back panel with either an Arreis SDF or no-added-urea formaldehyde particleboard core.
· GreenT™ Decorative Overlays manufactured by the Spectrum Division of Timber Products.
· GreenT™ Particleboard, a raw particleboard made with no-added-urea formaldehyde resins.
· GreenT™ Door Core, the popular particleboard door core.
Meets Formaldehyde
Requirements
When it comes to formaldehyde emissions, GreenT meets or
exceeds all federal and state requirements, including Phase I
and Phase II of the recent California Air Resources Board
(CARB) standards that were approved in April.
“California has set the bar at a high level with its formaldehyde rulings,” said Rutan. “We’re proud to say that GreenT is taking the lead when it comes to complying with the state’s formaldehyde emission ceilings required for 2009 and 2010.”
Environmental
Priority
GreenT is the latest innovation from the environmental leader
in hardwood plywood. Timber Products responsibly stewards
118,000 acres of forest under the strict standards of the
Sustainable Forestry Initiative® (SFI) program and was the
first hardwood plywood company in the world to carry the SFI
label.
All materials sourced from the company’s land are audited and certified as environmentally sustainable, ensuring healthy forests for future generations.
“Timber Products Company has been a national
environmental leader in the wood products industry for
decades,” Rutan said. “The GreenT product line is a
continuation of this tradition and culture that we take very
seriously.”
